Creating An Impact with Visual Aids

We have discussed how to use powerpoint correctly to contribute to producing an effective message. What other types of visual aids could be used in a speech to creae an impact. Think outside the box and past the list of visuals that we dicussed in class and are mentioned in the text, eg., models, charts, etc. What creative ways could technology, and the internet sites be used? Or, what other types of visuals can you come up with has examples? Give two hypothetical situations and the type of visual aid that would be utilized in each speech. Comment due Nov.5

One additional visual aid that could be used during a speech would be the internet. Because the internet is filled with millions of dirrent topics, it could be used for millions of different speeches. Clips such as music and videos could be incorporated into presentations about art topics, or news clips for a current event speech. Because information about financial data, such as bank accounts, stock updates and other business info are updated regularly, it could be used for marketing speeches. Another possible visial aid could even be computers themselves. When we visited the library to learn about researching date, we were each given a computer to use, ensuring we knew how to access the information.

With technology being so advanced, I think that the Internet would be a great visual for a presentation. For example (along the lines of what Jon did during his speech) pick a website and actually navigate through the site to show your audience how to use it. That would be a great visual aid, and something out of the ordinary. Also, if your speech was on a specific topic, like voter registration, you could show your audience how easy it is to register to vote, starting with Google, and working your way through the search engine, to the website, and printing out the mail in sheet, just to prove how simple it is to register.

Visual Aids enhance a speech. They can further drive your point home without you having to say anything. The textbook points out that Visual Aids stimulate interest and stay with the audience longer than verbal communication. The photograph of the dead priest being carried away during the tragic 9-11 had a strong impact and carried a message without a single word. Visual aids helps both the speaker and the listeners.

Visual Aids may come in the form of objects, photographs, graphs, models, drawings, charts, multimedia presentations, and the actual speaker himself/herself. A majority of these visual aids, like chris and abby stated, can be found on the internet.
